By using light instead of electricity to transmit data, Lightmatter combines silicon photonics, 3D-stacked optical interposers, co-packaged optics, and high-bandwidth optical engines to help cloud providers and AI system designers scale their compute clusters. This optical approach eliminates traditional interconnect bottlenecks for demanding AI and high-performance workloads while delivering higher bandwidth density and significantly improved energy efficiency.


Lightmatter strategically partners with semiconductor leaders such as GlobalFoundries, Amkor, ASE, and Cadence, while also joining the NVIDIA NVLink Fusion ecosystem to integrate its optical tech directly into NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure.


Backed by leading global investors, including T. Rowe Price, Fidelity, and GV (Google Ventures), at the end of 2025, Lightmatter announced the close of its $400M Series D round, bringing its total funding to ~$821M and driving its valuation to $4.4B, representing a 4x increase in 12 months.
